Audio visual displays in HomeAway London office

HomeAway

A scalable AV environment delivering consistent, high-quality collaboration experiences across HomeAway’s growing London workspace.

The Challenge

HomeAway occupied 1 floor of Portland House, in the centre of Victoria, London, and the project was part of the expansion onto another floor, whilst refurbishing their current space. They had existing AV systems which were outdated, however the key fundamentals worked.

After a consultation period, MVS were chosen as the preferred supplier and instructed to work with the firm’s Texas based global IT Project Manager to come up with the perfect AV solution for the London office.

Introduction

HomeAway

is one of the leading online holiday home rental marketplaces with more than 2,000,000 rental properties available in 190 countries.

Based in Austin, Texas, the company has offices around the globe.

The solution – a standardised approach for ease of use

The project, which later expanded to include a third floor, covered 30,000 sq ft of office space over a seven-month programme. Working alongside the client’s fit-out contractor, MVS was heavily involved in the design phase before installations began, issuing CAD elevations for screen positioning and recess detailing.

A key element of the installation was standardising AV equipment throughout the office. This approach enables staff to enter any meeting room and immediately understand how the systems work, without needing training on different hardware configurations.

Expert technology for high-performance AV

The ten main meeting rooms were equipped with dual 65” Samsung DM65E displays connected to Polycom RealPresence 500 video conferencing codecs, with HDMI connectivity via Extron cable cubbies built into the desks.

Polycom IP7000 conference phones were deployed throughout, acting both as VOIP telephones and microphones for the video conferencing systems.

Huddle spaces

Thirty smaller huddle spaces were equipped with single displays and HDMI connectivity. Each meeting room included an iPad-based booking system, running the client’s chosen room booking software and installed within custom-made metal enclosures.

In addition, two larger AV-enabled spaces were delivered: “The Square”, used for weekly town-hall meetings, and a 30-seat training space.

A custom-made, bespoke solution

Both large spaces were fitted with dual 75” Samsung DM75E displays, powered by Polycom RealPresence 700 codecs and paired with two Polycom EagleEye IV 12× zoom cameras. Video distribution was handled via an 8×8 digital media matrix, with multiple digital input points and connectivity for confidence monitors on portable trolleys.

Audio was delivered using a Shure Wireless Microflex system with handheld and head-worn microphones, supported by Biamp Bexia VC DSP. System control was provided via Crestron, using a 7” touch panel alongside iPad control.

Effortless and future-proof

With the new AV systems in place, HomeAway staff can easily make and receive video calls with offices around the world. The consistent, intuitive setup across the office ensures meetings and presentations happen without wasted time or technical friction.

The deployment demonstrates how standardised AV solutions can be powerful without being intrusive — intuitive to use, effective, and future-ready.

What HomeAway can do now

They have since given MVS some extra jobs to complete installations in meeting and interview rooms around London and are broadening to work with other offices around the world. MVS has a great relationship with HomeAway and is now considered as a partner for Europe.
